Free TV news up for grabs

TV reporters are like policemen – they seem to get younger every day. Queensland University of Technology is unashamed about this, launching a student-run TV news bulletin three nights a week for the Brisbane area.

For the past few weeks, it has been posting it on Youtube. These students do exactly as normal TV types do, though probably without the ego and preening. They are supported by a professional studio crew that adds to the quality.

Their professor, Alan Knight, reckons a mainstream local news site should grab the QUT talent and nightly footage.

He laments that because his journalism under-grads are young, the quality of their work will not be seen as good enough. Well, click on the vid and make your own judgment.

In the meantime, YouTube gets the traffic and the ad revenue. It does not have to be that way. Anyone interested in using their footage, let me know at mark.hollands@panpa.org.au
